Why you won't see an instant price
A scrap car is priced by its weight, so we can show you a price straight away. A salvage car is different: what it's worth depends on the damage, which parts are good, the mileage and how much demand there is for that model right now. Two cars with the same registration year can be hundreds of pounds apart.
So rather than guess, we pass your car to a buyer who specialises in that kind of vehicle, and they make you an offer based on it. It takes a little longer than an instant quote, and it's how you get a price that reflects what the car is really worth.
How salvaging your car works

- Tell us how to reach you. Just your name and number. You can hear back by phone or on WhatsApp.
- Get your offer. A specialist salvage buyer from our network looks at your car and contacts you with a price. There's no obligation to accept it.

What counts as a salvage car?
Salvage is for cars that still have value as a vehicle or for their parts. That usually means one of these:
- Accident damage, whether it's repairable or not
- Non-runners: engine, gearbox or electrical faults, or a car that simply won't start
- MOT failures on a car that's otherwise worth something
- Insurance write-offs in categories S and N
- Newer or higher-value cars that would be wasted at scrap price

Insurance write-offs
If your insurer has written the car off as a Cat S (structural damage) or Cat N (non-structural damage) and you've kept it, a salvage buyer will usually want it, since both can be repaired and go back on the road. Have the insurer's paperwork to hand when the buyer calls.
Cat A and Cat B cars can never go back on the road, so they go through the scrap route rather than salvage.
Paperwork
Have the car's logbook, the V5C, ready for collection. If it's missing, tell the buyer when they call; it doesn't usually stop a sale. Once the car is collected, the buyer will tell you what to let the DVLA know, which you can do online in a few minutes, and any road tax left is refunded automatically.

Why don't I get an instant price for my car? Salvage value depends on the car's condition and parts, not its weight, so a specialist buyer prices it individually. It takes a little longer than an instant quote and usually means a better price.
Does my car need to run or have an MOT? No. Non-runners and MOT failures are exactly what salvage buyers look for.
Can I sell a Cat S or Cat N write-off? Yes. Both can be repaired and returned to the road, so they usually suit salvage. Cat A and Cat B cars go through the scrap route instead.
