Why vans and pickups are often worth more than cars
Scrap value is worked out mostly by weight, and vans are heavy. A Ford Transit or a Mercedes Sprinter carries far more steel than a family hatchback, so an old van at the end of its working life is usually worth more to scrap than a car of the same age.
We take everything from small car-derived vans like the Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner, through the Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic and VW Transporter, up to the Transit and Sprinter. Pickups such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200 and Nissan Navara are welcome too, as are chassis cabs, dropsides, tippers and Luton box vans, anything up to 3.5 tonnes. How scrapping your van works

Clean air zones hit vans hardest
In most of Britain's clean air zones, private cars aren't charged but older vans are. An older diesel van that doesn't meet Euro 6 pays £12.50 a day in London's ULEZ and in Newcastle, and £9 a day in Bradford. For a van driven into a zone every working day, that adds up to thousands of pounds a year, which is why so many older vans reach us in good running order.
If your van has become too expensive to use for the work it does, scrapping it can be the cheapest way out, and the price you get puts something towards its replacement.
Is there a government van scrappage scheme?
Not a national one. London's ULEZ scrappage scheme, which paid small businesses and sole traders to scrap non-compliant vans, closed to new applications in September 2024. Local schemes come and go, so it's worth checking with your own council before you scrap. Whatever the scheme, you can still scrap your van with us and get paid for it.
Business and trade vans
Most of the vans we collect belong to sole traders and small firms, and scrapping a business van works the same way. If the van is registered to a company, the Certificate of Destruction is issued to the registered keeper shown on the V5C, and payment can go to the business account.
Before collection, take out your tools, stock and anything personal. You don't need to strip out racking, ply lining or signwriting.
Fleet and company vehicles
