Which cars are worth most at the scrapyard? Real values from 40,031 scrapped cars

A year of real payout data reveals the makes that hold their value to the very end - and the city cars worth barely more than their weight.

What is a scrap car actually worth? Payout data from 40,031 vehicles scrapped across the UK in the past year gives a real answer - not a guess. The average car fetched £216, but the gap between the top and bottom of the league is nearly three to one.

Scrap values by make: the league table

Average paid per car, makes with 100+ vehicles scrapped, Aug 2025 – Jul 2026

MakeAverage paidMakeAverage paid
Land Rover£333Volkswagen£217
Jaguar£286Alfa Romeo£216
Audi£260Vauxhall£215
Volvo£259Honda£214
BMW£254Ford£214
Mercedes£245Peugeot£210
Saab£239Nissan£208
Mitsubishi£236Renault£204
Kia£230Toyota£193
Hyundai£224Citroën£203

The pattern is weight and parts demand. Big, heavy cars with sought-after components top the table; light city cars sit at the bottom. Scrap value starts with the metal - which is why a two-tonne 4x4 beats a 900-kilogram runabout before a single part is counted.

The £400 club: models worth most at the end

Average paid per car, models with 60+ vehicles scrapped

ModelAverage paid
Range Rover£402
Land Rover Discovery£396
Hyundai ix35£353
London Taxi TX4£345
Kia Sportage£308
Vauxhall Antara£306
BMW X3£300
Honda CR-V£294
Ford Kuga£289
Audi A6£287

The 4x4s dominate — and one genuine surprise: the retired London black cab. Seventy-two TX4 taxis reached the scrapyard in the year at an average of £345, out-earning most of the German executive saloons they once ferried people past.

And the cars worth least

At the bottom of the league sit the city cars: the Chevrolet Matiz (£138), Citroën C1 (£144), Fiat Panda (£147), Suzuki Alto (£150) and Peugeot 107 (£153). Light on the scales means light in the pocket - though every one of them still put cash in its owner’s hand at the end.

What decides your car’s scrap value?

Three things, in order: weight - scrap pricing starts at pounds per tonne, so heavier cars earn more; parts demand - models with strong salvage demand can earn above their weight; and the day’s metal price, which moves with the global steel market. That is why quotes change week to week - and why it pays to get a live price rather than rely on last year’s figure.
