Rootes bought the company in 1950 and the Maidstone works spent its last years building the Commer TS3 two-stroke diesel before closing in the 1970s. The 1920s factory building on St Peter's Street is still there, Grade II listed since 2011, one of the least altered examples of its kind in the country.
